About Shepard Stable
Shepard Stable is family-owned and operated and is located SW of Brookston, IN, just 20 minutes from the Purdue University campus. Since we opened in 2007 we have strived to offer the best in horse care and personal service.  Both Shep and Libby have a life time of experience with horses.

Our facility includes two lighted outdoor arenas, a 90' X 100' horse barn with open and airy stalls, tack and feed storage, on site feed sales, free trailer storage, and riding lessons taught by an experienced adult instructor.  Visit our Barn Tour page for a virtual tour or our Riding Lessons page to learn more about our instructor.  Questions?  Please call!
Libby Marks-Shepard Co-Owner

Libby was raised across the street from the North Manchester Saddle Club and 1/2 a mile  from the Schutz Brothers Saddle Shop. The horse bug had bitten her as a toddler so the location couldn't have been worse for a horseless horse crazy girl.  After years of begging she was allowed to select a horse from a herd at the neighbors. She selected an untrained two year old pinto colt.  After he was gelded they were on their own to learn together. Her parents sold her horse when she was a senior in high school so she was once again horseless.

After her daughters were in Middle School she could no longer suppress the calling and once again purchased a two year old untrained Paint horse, this time a rescued mare.  Libby and Phoebe now spend as many hours as possible pleasure and trail riding and participate in the occasional show "just for fun".

Libby is a retired pharmacist and a PATH Intl and CHA certified riding instructor.
Shep retired in January 2014 from the Purdue University Police Department after more than 30 years of service as a police officer.   He spends many hours riding the trails of Indiana each summer.

Shep grew up in the horse industry.  His mother owned a racing and show stable outside of Ft Wayne. He jockeyed for three years around the Midwest, including riding on dirt tracks and larger tracks, like Keeneland.  After he got too tall to race he trained horses to break from the gate as well as exercising them before and after school.

As a child Shep participated in 4-H, showing halter, western pleasure, and gaming.

His focus is now providing expert care for the horse at our stable and helping riders and boarders with any problems they may be having.
