Dennis Shepard (Shep) is a life long horseman. He is also a 23 year veteran of the Purdue University Police Department with 28 years of law enforcement experience.
His mother owned and operated a boarding, racing, sale, and horse training facility in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and he grew up working in the business. Dennis started his show career when he was five years old and continued showing throughout high school.
In addition, Dennis spent several years working with two race horse trainers, was a jockey for three years, and spent several years as an exercise rider.
Dennis is also experienced in halter, western pleasure, and speed classes.
He now spends his time on horseback on the trails across Indiana. You can find him sliding down hills and hopping creeks on his Quarter Horse mare, Do Well Liberty, or "Libby the Horse".
Dennis and Libby "the Wife" live on the premises and Dennis runs the day to day operation of Shepard Stable. He is always happy to answer questions or help you with problems.
Libby Marks-Shepard is a licensed pharmacist and a NARHA certified therapeutic riding instructor. She assists Dennis in the management of Shepard Stable, but also runs Therapeion Therapeutic Riding Center, which is located at the stable.
Libby acquired her first horse in middle school after years of constant begging. She and her pinto gelding spent many happy hours roaming the pastures and roads of the rural community she grew up in. Then college and kids pushed the horse dreams aside.
In 2001 those dreams could no longer be suppressed and she purchased an untrained two year old rescued horse.
Swoon Song Two, known as Phoebe, and Libby are now Parelli Level I certified and are working on Level II. In addition, Libby and Phoebe participate in the American Paint Horse Association Ride America Program and are creeping up on their 1000 hours in the saddle award.
